Massachusetts has created a fantastic network of doctors and Physician Assistants that can complete your physical and hand you a medical card if you pass the physical. There are actually a few online locations that can help you find a location near you and give you plenty of information about the doctor.

You can find locations closest to you through a few places such as:

While you will be able to find a location near you to do your physical, these websites are also very transparent about how much it can cost and how much they usually charge for each location.

You will have to make an appointment for most places as there are very few walk-in locations and those can have extremely long wait times. Most places can see you within a week or two when you call to make an appointment, however, if one place has a long wait time, you can usually find somewhere else that can see you quicker.

What to Bring to Your DOT Physical Appointment

When you are going to your appointment you need to bring a few things that will help your appointment go faster, your doctor will be capable of getting a better picture of your health and you will be more accurately evaluated for your Medical DOT Card.

The few things you need to bring with you to the appointment are:

  • A list of current medications
  • Current and past medical issues and concerns
  • Previous medical history
  • Your glasses or hearing aids if you need them
  • If you have sleep apnea, you need a letter from your sleep doctor
  • If you have diabetes, you need a copy of recent blood test results

Bringing these items can simply give your doctor a bigger picture of how you are health-wise and whether it is safe for you to be on the road or not. Your doctor who is doing the physical exam needs to be made aware of any problem you may have that can affect your day-to-day schedule or lifestyle.

Without telling your doctor these things, you risk yourself and the others who are on the road with you.

What to Do With Your DOT Physical Results

After your physical exam, you will receive a copy of the physical results and whether your doctor believes you are capable of receiving a CDL or not. These results will be a paper that is certified and signed by your medical provider, the paper will also contain their certification number to protect from tampering and forgery.

These results are meant to be taken to the DMV, your employer, and anyone else who may need the results for you to successfully receive your CDL. Your certified results usually have an expiration date and are no longer allowed to be turned in after that date.

Once you receive your results it is important for you to take them to the DMV as soon as possible to receive your CDL.
